American Airlines Bargaining Postponed

Our contract between American Airlines and the CWA-IBT Association becomes amendable in December 2020. According to the law, either CWA or the company must send a letter to the other party at least 180 days prior to the amendable date in order to begin bargaining. In other words, our contract does not expire; it renews without any change until the date by which each succeeding twelve-month period is completed.

Based on advice from our legal team and agreement with the Teamsters, we have decided not to open bargaining this year. American has not submitted a letter to open bargaining, so we will wait until the next amendable period in the hope that the airline's economic status improves so that we would not be forced to bargain over concessionary proposals.
